Dubex sprayers with WAVE methodology, are sprayers that open the crop and spray the spraying liquid exactly where it is needed. Without drift, with very fine droplet size and with less water. Nozzles are positioned at a 25cm distance from each other.
Cropsurfer™ / Släpduk™ are shielded sprayer systems and are intended to be mounted on new or existing sprayer booms. They are possible to operate with low water rates and small droplets with reduced drift and increased coverage. They enable shorter distances to target and low application rates allow optimal timing of operation.
Thorvald is a robot for applying shortwave UV radiation to crops. It can be adapted for greenhouses, polytunnels and field crops. Weekly exposure of strawberries to shortwave UV light is highly effective in suppressing powdery mildew, but the treatments must be applied at night to avoid damaging the plants. The robots can carry the relatively lightweight lamp arrays and work all night. Thorvald is equipped with an array of UV lamps and applies the UV treatment autonomously, without a human labour requirement. Commercial solutions for glasshouse-grown crops such as tomatoes and cucumbers are currently under development.
The Dragon delivery system is mounted to a tractor and pulled at a precise speed through the field to deliver the required dose. The optimal dose and schedule will vary for different crop and pathogen systems. When designing for a new crop-pathogen system, the optimal procedure is determined through a combination of laboratory and field studies to ensure that disease severity is reduced while minimizing damage to the crop. This is being developed by the Lighting Research Center (LRC) in the USA (information online at https://lightandplanthealth.org/dragon.html). The LRC is part of a university and not a manufacturer, nor are we selling these units. The website includes plans where farmers could construct their own units to use and evaluate if they wish, and the arrays are being used and tested in ongoing research with farmers.
The company octinion (merged with Priva to Kompano in 2021) makes robotic platforms. Their xenion robotic platform outfitted with UV-C lights is called Lumion. Lumion helps to manage powdery mildew on strawberries using UV-C light. The fungus specific DNA absorbs the UV-C light, thus avoiding damage to the crop. It is a robot that can move around the crop. The platform can operate on rails or tires.
This analytical tool based DNA array technology can provide quantitative identification for more than 150 different fungal and bacterial pathogen species, selected upon relevance for horticultural crops. Every microarray allows 8 determinations. Easy-to-use sampling kit for sample collection by non-specialist technicians is provided. Producers will take the samples themselves. Samples are shipped to a laboratory where pathogens are detected by using DNA microarray technology. Provided online tool to support the end-users (farmers, agronomists at cooperatives, consultants) in making decisions on pest management, establishing not only the sampling collection but also interpretation of the VegAlert data, permitting to the farmers to improve knowledge about phytopathogen prevalence and epidemiology.
Buntata is an Android application that has been designed to help users identify plant pests and diseases with no a-priori knowledge. Buntata provides a visual key for the identification of diseases by displaying example images of symptoms. A user visually selects the part of the plant that is affected and Buntata displays images of recorded symptoms. Picking the image that most closely resembles the symptoms shows detailed information about possible causes, background information, diagnostics and control methods to help deal with the cause. Diseases can exhibit similar symptoms. Buntata displays diseases with similar symptoms together allowing easy comparison to help users identify the correct one.
